Polly Woodside, a National Heritage-listed tall ship with a storied past, is one of our most unique event venues. Built in Belfast in 1885, this three-masted vessel once carried cargo between England and South America, circumnavigating the globe no fewer than 17 times. Following its last journey, it was sold to the National Trust (for 1 cent!) and immaculately restored to its former glory.
Today, it’s nestled on the sparkling Yarra River, directly opposite the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The venue boasts indoor and outdoor event spaces, allowing guests to soak up the ship’s historic exterior while enjoying a refurbished interior. The restored main deck provides a spectacular setting for cocktails under the stars in the warmer months, while the atmospheric below-deck area creates an intimate space that’s perfect for seated dinners and presentations. Guests can flow seamlessly from deck to shore via a central gangplank, ensuring ease of access.
Attached to Polly Woodside’s berth is an interactive maritime museum that features an immersive theatrette and dining hall. Get lost in the collection of heritage pieces before sitting down with guests to enjoy a delicious meal in true sailor style. Polly Woodside can accommodate 100 seated dinner guests, 80 seated guests with a dancefloor, 120 guests in the theatrette and 250 cocktail guests.
